The Southern Highlands Community Foundation announces the Hill Top Community Association’s Sonnya Davis as their next ‘Highlands Hero’.

The Southern Highlands Community Foundation (SHCF) today announced Sonnya Davis as the next ‘Highlands Hero’ in their recently launched awards series.  Sonnya was nominated for her work with the Hill Top Community Association (HTCA) as well as her years of dedication to enhancing community well-being and a sense of vibrancy in the village.

Highlands Heroes is an award that recognises and rewards volunteers in our community who work tirelessly for their chosen cause.  Winners receive a $5000 grant for their organisation.

Nicole Smith, Chair of the Southern Highlands Community Foundation said:

“Sonnya and the HTCA are a wonderful example of the impact that a grass roots community organisation can have.  Led by people who are so invested and passionate about their community, their work has real long-lasting impact, elevating people’s pride in where they live.”

Sonnya has been heavily involved with the Hill Top Community Association (HTCA) working of the beautification of Hill Top project.  The project has added new trees to line the streets, information signs at the village entrance, wall murals at Boronia Park, the Village Store and the Rural Fire Service (RFS) shed – as well as upgrades to Federation Park.

“We are continually looking for ways to make our village an even better place to live, work and thrive.  We believe in the power of collaboration and community engagement, and we are always amazed by what can be achieved with a bit of hard work and dedication.”   Sonnya said.

Though initiatives like ‘Highlands Heroes’ the SHCF aims to shine a light onto areas of need within our community and have positive impact on the causes that each of our Highlands Heroes represent.

Highlands Heroes nominations are open all year round.

Nominations are being called from not-for-profit organisations operating in the Southern Highlands.  The judging panel is looking for volunteers who have contributed to the betterment of their organisation and/or its services and who have not sought recognition or acclamation.
