Georgie Lewis

Young Highlands Hero, September 2025

For Georgie Lewis, the Moss Vale Golf Club has always been a place of warmth, support and strong community spirit.  In late 2023 when Georgie was just 14, she pitched the idea of hosting a ‘Pink Golf Day’ at the club to raise money for Breast Cancer Network Australia.

What began as a one-off event with a fundraising goal of $5,000 grew to raise over $10,000 on the day and was so successful that it was repeated the following year – doubling the funds raised again.

Georgie started playing golf at 8 years old, she is a junior member and player at the Moss Vale Golf Club and has spent time in the Pro Shop after school and on weekends.  She credits the time she spends at the club, interacting with people from different demographics, generations and experiences with inspiring her.  Seeing first-hand how a love of golf can bring people together, Georgie saw an opportunity to raise money for an important cause.

Pink Golf Day

Combining her love of golf with her passion for helping others, Georgie spent months planning the charity event, approaching local businesses for sponsorships and raffle prizes, promotion and rallying volunteers from the club, locals, school friends and family.

The event was open to everyone and drew over 128 participants, all decked out in pink with pink tees, pink golf balls, pink cupcakes and pink lemonade.  The event raised $10,247 for the Breast Cancer Network Australia – doubling Georgie’s initial fundraising target.

Evolving with the community in mind

After the success of Pink Golf Day in 2024, Georgie knew that the community was behind her and inspired, began looking ahead to 2025.  This time, she saw an opportunity to raise funds but importantly, raise awareness and encourage discussion in both the golfing and wider community around prostate cancer.  The 2025 Pink Golf Day raised over $22,000 for the Prostate and Breast Cancer Foundation.

Jenny Bott, Chair of the Southern Highlands Community Foundation said;

“Georgie is a shining example of how one person, no matter their age, can make a difference.  She shows us that leadership can come from anyone who sees a need, wants something to happen, and makes it happen – through their own commitment, energy and vision.  This kind of meaningful impact by a young person in our community cannot be underestimated – this is what we celebrate with Young Highlands Heroes.”

Age is your superpower

Far from feeling limitations due to her age, Georgie saw it as her strength.  She found the people she connected with in organising the event to be incredibly supportive of a young person ‘having a go’.

“The way that Georgie was able to galvanise community support, not just from club members, staff and participants, but also local businesses and contributors is an incredible achievement and a testament to her focus, organisational abilities and enthusiasm.  Despite the enormity of her endeavour, she always had a smile on her face.”

Don’t wait to make a change

Georgie’s Pink Golf Days have been the most successful charity fundraisers ever held at the Moss Vale Golf Club.  With plans to make the fundraiser an annual event, Georgie hopes to continue supporting charities though golf, while encouraging other young people to get involved in causes they care about.

“Don’t wait to be older to make a change,” Georgie said.  “Opportunities are everywhere.  Start now – because your voice and your actions matter.”

The Young Highlands Hero Award is a $3,000 grant that recipients can donate to their chosen cause.  Georgie plans to donate the funds to Pop In Southern Highlands, to help support women and children impacted by domestic violence.

Georgie is currently focussing on her Year 12 exams that start next term, but we expect to hear an announcement regarding Pink Golf Day 2026 coming soon!  We can’t wait to see what this inspiring young woman does next.
