Bushfire Recovery and Fire Aid
The Fire Aid 2020 Appeal raised over $340,000 for Southern Highlanders in need after the devasting bushfires of Summer 2019/20.
The Southern Highlands Community Foundation was proudly responsible for managing the distribution of the funds. Our role was to ensure that help was provided to those most in need and used effectively to assist the long-term recovery process. The funds were distributed directly to Wildlife Recovery, Local RFS Fire Brigades, to families via the Fire Aid care and to Bushfire recovery and regeneration.
The Fire Aid Card
- The EFTPOS card with pre-approved funds was launched and distributed throughout the Southern Highlands to families that lost their homes. The card was able to be used at a number of designated Southern Highlands businesses to help the recovery.
PhotoVoice Competition
- Photo Voice is an incredible photo essay remembering the resilience and renewal of the Southern Highlands post Black Summer Fires with all funds raised from sale going to impacted families.
Working with the team from FireAid was incredibly rewarding for all at the SHCF and its our belief that initiatives like this that are a wonderful example of what can be achieved when a community works together. We see the very best of humanity with new engagement, empowerment and goodwill bringing about meaningful and long term solutions.
