The Southern Highlands Community Foundation (SHCF) pays tribute to our former Patron, the late Dame Marie Bashir.
Jennifer Bott AO, Chairman of the Foundation expressed condolences to Dame Marie’s family. She also said: “Dame Marie Bashir was an extraordinary woman of great intellect, enormous compassion and a formidable work ethic”.
Dame Marie was born in Nerrandera to Lebanese parents. Her professional life as a psychiatrist was also a platform for international engagement in Vietnam and China. She was Chancellor of the University of Sydney as well of course as one of our longest serving State Governors.
A highly accomplished violinist, Dame Marie always valued music and the arts as a way to communicate and present the very best of Australia particularly in her role as Governor of NSW. She also had a life long commitment to children and to regional Australia.
The SHCF is so proud to have had her as our Patron and we pay tribute to her extraordinary legacy.
