The Southern Highlands Community Foundation announces new Young Highlands Hero Award
The Southern Highlands Community Foundation (SHCF) launched their Highlands Heroes initiative last year with the aim of recognising unsung heroes in our community. The success of this prompted them to broaden the initiative with the launch of a new Young Highlands Hero award with nominations open now.
Seeking Young Highlands Heroes
Nominations are being sought for young, quiet achievers in our community who have contributed to their local community as volunteers and/or fundraisers. Applicants must be aged between 13 and 21 and may either self-nominate or be nominated by a third party. The successful winner will receive a SHCF $3,000 grant for their nominated organisations.

The SHCF is about creating a kind and connected community. The launch of our Young Highlands Hero program aims to celebrate and encourage those young, unsung heroes within our community who might otherwise go under the radar. We aim to foster a kind, giving and connected community and what better place to start than with our young people.’
Who can be nominated
Young Highlands Hero nominees do not need to be leaders within their community, the intention of the SHCF is to recognise and reward young volunteers and fundraisers whose hard work and dedication had made a real difference to their cause. The nominee does not need to be a member of a community organisation however, their activities must be for organisations that benefit the Southern Highlands community.
Nominations are open all year round. Nominees must have two references, one from an organisation that they are supporting, the other from someone who has seen the contribution that they are making e.g. a family friend, teacher, school principal. The first Young Highlands Hero will be announced later this year (with a further two Young Highlands Heroes awards in 2025).
